You can’t go far in Bluewater without coming across evidence of environmental action.  The environment is considered at the forefront our community choices, from the preservation of our past, to choosing locally grown and produced foods in our restaurants and Farmers’ Market to reducing and recycling in the most creative ways imaginable!

ABCA

The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority (ABCA) watersheds encompass the drainage basins of the Ausable River, Bayfield River, Parkhill Creek, and the gullies between Bayfield and Grand Bend draining directly to Lake Huron.

BLUE COMMUNITIES

Bayfield  is a registered Blue Community!  Blue communities around the world have acknowledged water as a human right.  In our area this means that we have banned the disposable water bottle at all of our public meetings and have provided our residents and visitors with multiple “I Drink Tap Water” Water Bottle Filing Stations through out the municipality.

BLUE FLAG BEACH & MARINA

Bluewater's beach and marina participate in the Blue Flag Program which is a world renowned eco-label trusted by millions around the globe.   Through this program  the Municipality of Bluewater makes every effort (including weekly water testing) to ensure the water found in our lake and marina is among the cleanest and freshest in the world!

THE BAYFIELD ANGLERS ASSOCIATION

The Bayfield Anglers maintain the Bayfield Fish Hatchery and keep a watchful eye on our lakes fish health and population.  These approximately 20 volunteers are dedicated to the healthy fish stock future of the Bayfield River.  Every year, they collect approximately 60,000 Rainbow Trout eggs from Nine Mile Creek and release approximately 50,000 fry into five tributaries that feed the Bayfield River.

BAYFIELD RIVER VALLEY TRAIL ASSOCIATION

The Bayfield Trails Association work diligently to protect our green spaces and waterways including hosting the annual Litter Walk, where dozens of volunteers and businesses come together to do the hard job of picking up the trash that accumulates over the course of a year.

Everyone who enjoys the adventure of walking in natural surroundings with their families can savour the beauty of the Bayfield River Valley, and the many varied hiking trails that can be found in and around the village. There are well marked and maintained trails for all skill and fitness levels that encourage family day hikes of varying lengths from 1 to 5 kilometres.

THE LAKE HURON CENTRE FOR COASTAL CONSERVATION

Founded in 1998 with the goals of protecting and restoring Lake Huron’s coastal environment and promoting a healthy coastal ecosystem. While many environmental advocacy groups address local issues within the region, the Coastal Centre is the only grassroots organization focused on protecting the coastal environment lake-wide.
