Fall leaf collection begins October 13
The Municipality of Bluewater will be offering fall leaf collection in urban areas once again this autumn.
Leaf collection will be offered in Bayfield, Brucefield, Dashwood, Hensall, Kippen, Varna and Zurich from Tuesday, October 13th to Wednesday, November 18th. Leaf collection will occur on a rolling basis during this time period and will not be collected on one specific day.
Lakeshore leaf collection for areas west of Highway 21 will occur Friday, November 6th.
Weather conditions may require changes to the schedule.
Collection requirements
- Leaves must be placed in compostable paper bags only. Plastic bags will not be accepted.
- Bags must be at the curb by 7 a.m. on collection day.
- Do not place brush, branches, sticks, sod, garbage, or animal waste in bags.
- Please do not rake leaves onto streets or into ditches as this can create drainage issues and safety hazards.
Lakeshore collection
- Green waste piled in a central location within an association will not be collected.
- Leaves placed out after November 6, 2026 will not be picked up.
Alternative disposal options
- Green Waste Depot—72879 Blind Line, Zurich
- Leaves and brush accepted, free of charge anytime. Branches must be less than 4 inches in diameter.
- Stanley Landfill - 38594 Mill Road, Varna
- Leaves and brush accepted free of charge during regular operating hours.
Consider mulching, composting, or using leaves as garden cover to reduce waste and support a healthier environment.
